The controller of the artifact ability pays when the ability of this card resolves if they want to prevent the countering. [bethmo 1996/12/03]
Extended tournaments (see Rule 913) have banned this card since 1999/10/01.
Note - This card was of creature type "Legend" until Oracle 2004/10/01, when it became no type. Then with Oracle 2007/10/01 it became "Human Artificer".
